A points-based system is used in Australia to determine a person’s eligibility to migrate to Australia as a professional worker. Keep in mind that while 65 points is the bare minimum for PR eligibility in Australia, the higher your score on the eligibility calculation, the more likely you are to be invited to apply for permanent residency in Australia.

The General Skilled Migration program uses a point-based approach to identify migrants with the required capabilities, according to the Australia points calculator. Points are awarded to candidates based on the following criteria:

The skilled occupation must be listed on one of the Skilled Occupation Lists, the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).

You will gain an additional 5 points if your de facto partner or spouse is also an applicant and speaks English fluently.

Being single earns you ten points. If your companion is an Australian permanent resident or citizen, you will receive an additional 10 points.
