University College London (Bachelor’s Programs)

University College London, known also as UCL, is a public university located in London, United Kingdom. Established in 1826, UCL’s main campus is in the Bloomsbury area of London. It has several institutes and teaching hospitals in other parts of central London and satellite campuses in Stratford, East London, Adelaide, Australia, and Doha, Qatar. 

UCL is divided into 11 faculties, of which there are more than 100 departments, research centers, and institutes. UCL also runs many museums and collections belonging to diverse fields.

University College London’s acceptance rate stands at 48%. Students need to get a GPA of at least 3.6 out of 4.0, which is equal to about 87% to 89%, and a score of a minimum of 6.5 on the IELTS exam to get admitted. It houses more than 40,000 students, out of which more than 40% are foreign nationals. 

In 2022, more than 1,500 students were from India. Foreign students have to spend up to £32,080 per year in addition to around £224.5 per week for living expenses. Students can apply for a few scholarships at UCL of up to £15,197 per year.

The Campuses of the University College London 

The University College London has three campuses in Archway, Bloomsbury, and Hampstead.

Each of the UCL campuses has auditoriums, cutting-edge sports facilities, and 18 specialist libraries with over two million books, several articles, collections, and journals.

Moreover, UCL has two campuses overseas. One is in Adelaide, Australia, and the other is in Doha, Qatar. 

Housing Options at the University College London 

All foreign students are given housing options in UCL’s on-campus accommodation. 

  • Lodging Fees: ranging from £123 to £355 per week
  • Accommodation Types:
    • Twin room, small single room, one-bedroom flat, large single room, duplex single room, and large single studio.
  • Food is provided 12 times a week in catering halls. 
  • Duration of Lodging: 39 weeks for students of bachelor’s programs and 52 weeks for students of master’s programs.
  • Rooms are given to students after they pay a deposit fee of £250.
  • Facilities provided in the residence halls include a communal kitchen, common room, laundry room, recreational facilities, study areas, and security.

Note: Students who intend to attend classes for less than one academic year are not assured of accommodation because only limited numbers of spaces are available. 

Admission Process at the University College London

Application Process of the UCL 

Foreign students who want to apply for admission at UCL have to submit their applications within the deadlines along with their official documents.

After students have met the requirements of admission and got the offer for admission, they need to accept it at the earliest. After depositing the tuition fees, students must commence their student visa process in the UK.

Scholarships from University College London 

UCL collaborates with a few external entities to offer scholarships to students. Most of UCL’s scholarships for foreign students depend on the nation of origin of the student. 

Students from India can apply for certain external scholarships such as Commonwealth Scholarships or Chevening Scholarships. 

Alumni of the University College London 

In UCL’s alumni network, there are more than 300,000 members. The alumni community takes part in many voluntary activities and comes out with newsletters. It also helps out financially or academically some existing students.
