Università della Svizzera italiana (USI)

Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), also known as the University of Lugano in the English-speaking world, is one of Switzerland’s 12 public universities that are certiified. It is a self-governing educational institution that the public law of Switzerland regulates and is, therefore, detached from public administration.

It houses six faculties in architecture, culture and society communication, economics, informatics, and theology and biomedical sciences, besides two affiliated institutions in the Institute of Oncology Research and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine.

It offers study and research in data science, economics, and humanities, among others. Located in Switzerland’s Italian-speaking part, it plays a proactive role in promoting the academic growth of the country.

It houses close to 2,700 students, of whom more than 1,800 are foreign nationals.

According to QS World University Rankings 2024, it is ranked 328 worldwide. It offers 23 master’s programs in varied specializations.

It has four campuses in Lugano, Bellinzona, and Mendrisio. USI encourages its researchers and students to think in new ways.

USI is a young university where students are offered quality education and study experience that is rich. Faculty allows students to engage in an interdisciplinary fashion so that they can have hands-on experience.

Owing to USI’s small size, cosmopolitan setting, and informal culture, it fosters opportunities for its students to engage with the world so that they can explore horizons hitherto unexplored and take up global careers.

Università della Svizzera italiana charges its students €4.180 per semester, and the cost of living per month averages from €1,350 to €1,880 per month.
