The institute is the Helmholtz Association’s national research center. KIT came into being when the University of Karlsruhe (Universität Karlsruhe in German) and the Karlsruhe Research Center (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe in German) were merged in 2009. The Campuses of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

The university has more than a few campuses in Karlsruhe which are spread over 150 acres of land. Close to it is a park and a forest.

It is said to have a large cutting-edge research facility.

KIT offers 107 degree programs. It offers programs at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels in the disciplines of science and humanities.

  • In the university, BioInterfaces International Graduate School, Karlsruhe School of Optics and Photonics, the Hector School, and Graduate School for Climate and Energy are the international schools where master’s degrees are taught in English.

Application Process of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

Application Portal: Aspiring students can apply for admission at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology through the Online Application Portal.

After filling up the application, applicants must take its printout and send it to the university’s international office along with essential documents.

The university has two intakes for admission – summer and winter.

Admission Requirements:

  • The minimum required GPA is 3.0 out of 4.0, which is equivalent to 83% to 86%.

Requirements of Language Proficiency

For courses taught in German, applicants must have at least basic proficiency in German. It could be DSH2 or an equivalent.  

English

Students opting for courses taught in English must get the following minimum scores in proficiency tests of English to be eligible for admission:

Scholarships From the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

  • Karlsruhe Institute of Technology Financial Aid offers several aids to students who are not financially stable. They include grants, loans to on-campus jobs, and scholarships.
  • Prominent are two types of financial assistance:
    • General Financial Aid: All foreign students who are in financial distress can apply.
    • STIBET Financial Aid: This is for foreign students who are on the verge of completing their studies and who have registered or are registering for their thesis can apply. Assistance is granted to students who have suddenly fallen on hard times.
    • Both aids are provided for a period of six months. A minimum of €250 per month is granted. Students need to maintain a grade point of a minimum of 2.5 to be eligible.
  • Scholarships: Germany’s thirteen major state and national funding agencies provide them.

 

WORK-STUDY PROGRAMS

Students who are in financial distress can take up part-time jobs to fund their daily needs.

  • KIT lets students work while they study
  • Students can work for 120 full days or 240 half days. They can, however, work not more than 20 hours a week when pursuing a full-time course.
  • Students can earn in the range of €5 to €15 per hour, which would amount to about €450 per month.
  • If their one-year earnings are not more than €8,354 without the issuance of social security, they need not pay any tax.
