The University of Ottawa, aka uOttawa, is a bilingual (Both English and French) public research university in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Admission to the University of Ottawa has an acceptance rate of 12% which makes the admission process for students quite competitive.

The main campus is spread over 42.5 hectares in the hub of Ottawa. It has two intakes per year – one in fall and the other in summer. There were more than 37,400 full-time and part-time students in graduate courses and 7,200 graduate students in fall 2021. Of them, 70% of students are enrolled in English-language schools and 30% in French-language schools.

Around 17% of the student population of the university are international students belonging to 150 countries. The university hosts ten faculties which include the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, the University of Ottawa Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Telfer School of Management.

To obtain admission to the university, an applicant needs to get a score of a least GPA of 3.0, i.e. ranging from 83% to 86%. Foreign students need to get in IELTS a score of 6.5 bands and in TOEFL-IBT a score of 88 for UG programs while scores of Masters vary depending on the program.

Work-study at the University of Ottawa

The Work-Study Program at the University of Ottawa offers students part-time work opportunities during the educational year and full-time during vacations.

The following are the eligibility criteria to enroll in the work-study program at the University:

  • Undergraduate students need to be enrolled in a minimum of nine units of courses or they must be full-time graduate students.
