The University of Sydney, also known as Sydney University, or USYD, is a public university that is in Sydney, Australia. Founded in 1850, the university houses eight academic faculties and university schools.

Its main campus is located in Sydney’s suburbs of Camperdown and Darlington. It has other campuses in Sydney Dental Hospital, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Camden Campus, and Sydney CBD campus. It has eight other facilities where courses are taught.   

Eleven individual libraries make up the University of Sydney Library which is located across the various campuses of the university.

After the university received a royal charter, its degrees were recognized as equivalent to the degrees granted by UK universities. Foreign applicants need to get a GPA score of at least 5, which is equivalent to 65% to 74%, and a score of 6.5 in IELTS to be eligible to apply to the university. They also need to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP), ranging from 400 to 500 words.

The University of Sydney accommodates more than 38% of foreign nationals. Most of them hail from Asian countries such as China, India, Malaysia, Nepal, and Vietnam, among others. It offers 400 areas of study for students. 

USYD also lets its students make use of internship and global exchange opportunities. The University of Sydney allows students to join more than 250 wide-ranging clubs and groups that participate in diverse activities. It admits students from LGBTQ communities.

Admission Process at the University of Sydney

To gain admission to the University of Sydney, students can apply to the courses of their choice online. 

Application Fee for B.Eng Courses: AUD 100 

Admission Requirements for B.Eng Programs:

  • Opt for a course.

  • Apply through an online application form.

The Campuses of the University of Sydney

The campuses at the University of Sydney run more than 250 clubs and societies with diverse activities. The University of Sydney also operates talk shows for the benefit of its students on SURG- the university’s own radio station.

It plays host to events such as Mardi Gras, Sydney Ideas, music and art festivals, etc. for the university’s students.

The University of Sydney

Foreign students pursuing bachelor’s programs are offered a wide range of scholarships. They include the Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship and the Sydney Scholars India Scholarship Program.

Foreign students can also work up to 20 hours per week during semesters and as many hours as they please during vacations. Before they commence working, they need to get a tax file number (TFN) to be employed in Australia.
