Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS) are granted to prospective international students who enroll in the Master's programs of Leiden University, Netherlands.

Who can apply for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarships for International Students?

Eligible for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarships are international students pursuing Master's programs at Leiden University, Netherlands, barring LLM (non-advanced), MSc, and study programs that the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities, and Leiden Law School offer beginning in February 2024.

Eligibility Criteria for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarships for International Students

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

International students who have attained outstanding study results in their previous degree that are applicable to the Master's programs for which they intend to apply by being among the top 10% in their Bachelor's programs.

Scholarship Benefits: The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship is awarded to the students for the duration of their respective study programs. The three available award levels are as follows:

• € 10,000 for the tuition fees
• € 15,000 for the tuition fees
• Total tuition fee where the statutory tuition fee is excluded 

Since the LExS is not a fully funded scholarship, its recipients from non-EEA countries need to submit proof of having sufficient funds to apply for their student visa/residence permit application.

Selection Process: The recipients of Leiden University Excellence Scholarships will be nominated by the University of Leiden's faculty selection committees within six weeks of the deadline of the scholarship. 

An email will be sent to all applicants informing them whether they have been selected to be awarded a LExS.

• Those applying for programs starting in February will receive them at the end of November.
• Those applying for programs starting in April will receive them at the end of September.

Eligible applicants for the scholarship must follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: You need to apply online for admission to a Master's program at Leiden University by February 1, 2024.

Step 2: After application, if you are eligible to apply for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship, it will show up in the online application system's scholarships section. 

Step 3: You need to state clearly that you are interested in applying for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship by uploading your letter of motivation for the scholarship.
