If you have made up your mind to move to Canada for a career overseas, then you will be naturally curious to know the easiest ways to find a job here. The term easiest way is a misnomer, because even if jobs are easily available in certain sectors, it may not be necessarily something that you have studied or trained for.

The point is even before you move into the country you will have to start making efforts to find a job in Canada. As a first step, you will have to assess your skills and work experience. The next step is to do a study of the Canadian job market and find out which jobs are in demand and which skillsets are required in the Canadian job market. This will help you understand the kind of job openings available to you once you land there and how soon you will be able to get one. For this, you should have a fair idea of the top jobs available in Canada. Based on your own skills and experience, you can decide how successful you will be in getting one of these jobs.

If you are not able to find any credible job leads before you move into the country, remember that you will have to find a way to earn an income. You need money to pay your rent, food expenses, and other living costs once you land in the country. There are two options for you, one is to find a job as a stop-gap arrangement before you find a job more suited to your qualifications. You can choose to work in supermarkets, fast food joints, do physical work in warehouses or factories or work as a sales rep or receptionist.

The second option is to land in Canada with enough funds that will take care of your needs for at least a year. If you have accredited skills, then ensure you have the funds to pay for the accreditation process in Canada.

Fine-tune your job search:

Improve your communication skills: If you want to succeed in your job hunt, the first thing to do would be to improve your language proficiency. Your fluency in English and ability to speak French are positive attributes when you are searching for a job. Apart from this, you need to have good communication skills. If you feel the need to improve on these aspects, do so in earnest so that you can succeed in getting a job.

Update your resume for the Canada job market: Take special care when making your resume. It should be formal in tone and not more than one page in length. The information should be direct and to the point. Avoid including your photo or personal details like age, gender, nationality or religion.

Emphasize your skills in the resume. Modify your resume based on the job description for the position you are applying for.

 Job prospects:

As an immigrant, finding a job in Canada can be easy or difficult. It depends on the type of job. Jobs with minimum wages are easily available. For jobs involving skilled labor, prior experience or a valid job offer before arrival is necessary. Applicants must have cleared the Canadian requirements for the specific industry or get retraining for it if possible.

Research reports of job opportunities in Canada indicate multiple job openings in healthcare, trades and STEM-related sectors.

It may not be hard to find the job of your dreams in Canada if you have the required qualifications and experience. Though it could be a struggle initially, there are greater chances of success if you have good communication skills and a positive attitude.
