There is no doubt that Australia is a land of opportunities especially if you are seeking a career overseas. To help you find your desired job, here are some easy ways to land a job here.

The good news is 800,000 Australian jobs are expected to be created by 2023. According to the latest reports on the labor market trends in Australia, the following sectors are expected to have the maximum number of jobs:

  • Health care and Social Assistance – 250,300
  • Constructions – 118,800
  • Education and Training – 113,000
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services – 106,600

These four industries are expected to contribute to 2/3rds of the total job growth in the next five years.

To successfully land a job in any of these sectors once you have migrated to Australia can be challenging if you do not have a job search strategy in place. You should have the relevant skills and experience to get the job you want. Here are some tips to help you:

Check your English language proficiency:

It will be easy to get a job provided you have the required English proficiency level. Experts suggest that you include your IELTS score in your job application as proof of your proficiency level.

Submit proof of experience related to the job and occupational skills:

When you apply for a job, ensure that you include details of your experience relevant to the job opening. Focus on your occupational skills that best meet the requirements stated in the job description. This will draw the attention of employers and recruiters and improve your chances of getting the job.  You must have enough proof of experience to convince employers.

Learn to tackle the lack of local experience issue:

Most Australian companies look out for local experience when assessing candidates. They look for this aspect because this indicates that the candidate has previously worked in an Australian company and understands the workplace culture.

If you do not have any local experience, you must devise ways to tackle the issue when interacting with recruiters. Be upfront about it, at the same time shift the focus on your work experience. Emphasize your skills and expertise gained through the course of your career and focus on how they can be utilized in the job you have applied.

You can also focus on your global experience (if you have any) where you can focus on working with people from diverse backgrounds and how this will help you in Australia.

Build your network:

When you are searching for a job, remember that 80% of them are not advertised. You will have better chances of landing a job if you have a strong professional network. You can build this network online or do it offline by attending meetups related to your industry. You should make attempts to connect with the local people. Who knows, some of them could provide valuable leads to your Australian job.

Networking with the local people will help you understand the local culture and provide valuable insights into your job search efforts.

Take up volunteering activities:

Any volunteering experience mentioned in your resume is valued by Australian employers. Volunteer work will help you learn about the local work culture, gain some local work experience and help you build your network. There are many websites where you can find local volunteering opportunities.

Finding a job in Australia can be a challenge but you can use these methods to succeed in your attempts.
