Canada has revealed that overseas immigrants’ work permit applications will be processed within 14 days in the Global Talent Stream of the provisional immigrant worker program. The occupations list revealed by the Canadian government is aimed at attracting overseas immigrants for the high-growth potential firms and for jobs in Canada that are in demand.
These efforts to attract overseas skilled workers is a recognition of the fact by the Government of Canada that to accentuate the growth of rapidly growing sectors in Canada such as the IT, workers for expert jobs must be recruited very quickly. This is again in a scenario wherein local talents in Canada cannot be recruited for these positions.
In this situation, Global Talent Stream specifies that the impact assessment for the labor market and processing of work visa applications must be completed within ten working days. This is applicable for firms who have been authorized to hire through this stream.
Canada’s Department of Social Development and Employment that manages this stream has said that the program will be operational on trial basis for first 2 years.
The impact assessment for the labor market in Canada demonstrates that local talents are not available to fill these vacancies. It is only after the firm has received approval for this that it can hire an overseas immigrant worker under this stream.
Minister of Labor, Workforce Development and Employment in Canada Patty Hajdu has said that this new stream of quick recruitment of overseas immigrant workers will assist firms in Canada to accentuate their growth. The government is keeping Canada attractive in the global labor market to facilitate the industries to thrive and grow, added the Minister as quoted by the CIC News.
There are two categories in the Global Talent Stream:
Category 1: It is for firms with high growth who have proved that they need overseas workers to accentuate growth.
Category 2: It if for firms that require highly skilled overseas workers for recruiting in the jobs under the list of skill shortage.
The exemptions for work permits have also become effective from June 12, 2017. The overseas immigrants who qualify under the skill category level ‘A’ or ‘0’ can arrive in Canada without the work permit and reside in the nation for two weeks once in an 180 day period.
