Rich Indians are turning to Grenada as their route to the US

The US has recently increased the minimum investment amount for the EB5 Visa, making it even more expensive than it already was. Hence, wealthy Indians are turning to Grenada, the Caribbean island, as their pathway to the US.

Demand for the Grenada Citizenship by Investment program has been skyrocketing among Indians in the last three months. The increased interest is due to Grenada’s investment visa treaty with the US. With the minimum investment amount for the EB5 Visa increasing, the interest in the EB5 Visa has also dropped.

The minimum investment amount under the EB5 Visa program has been increased to $900,000 from $500,000 from November 2019. This is for Targeted Employment Areas. The investment amount for non-Targeted Employment Areas is even higher. The amount for non-TEAs has been increased from $1 million to $1.8 million.

The high investment amount, along with an annual cap of just 700, has led wealthy Indians to look for options other than the EB5 Visa.

Grenada Citizenship by Investment program is an easy route for rich Indians to move to the US. Turkey is another country that offers a similar pathway to the US.

You have to make an investment of $220,000 in a real estate project approved by the Govt. under the Grenada Citizenship by Investment program. Indians are attracted to Grenada as it has a treaty for the E2 Visa with the US. Under this treaty, Grenada citizens can apply and obtain US citizenship in as less as three months, according to the Economic Times.

The E2 Visa of the US allows you to live and do business in the US. You have to make a minimum investment of $150,000. You should own at least 50% of your business and must be involved in the day-to-day affairs of your business.

The US gave out 40,000 E2 Visas in 2018.

Not just in India, but there is also a high interest among NRIs in the Middle East for the Grenada Citizenship by Investment program. The processing time for Grenada citizenship is 90 days. It takes another 90 days for the US E2 Visa.
