Warrnambool

Warrnambool region in Victoria is in dire need for Overseas Workers. The area boasts up to 4000 vacancies for a wide range of skills. Australia is planning to give the region the power to recruit Overseas Immigrants.

David Coleman, the Immigration Minister will soon announce the special sponsorship program. The aim is to attract Overseas Immigrants who would live in the region. It will be a 5-year agreement between Warrnambool and Morrison Government.

The agreement will apply to the following fields -

  • Hospitality
  • Meat processing
  • Agriculture
  • Dairy
  • Retail

The Government wants to distribute the migrant population across the provinces. This agreement is an attempt to attract Overseas Immigrants to the regions. Cr Tony Herbert, the Warrnambool Mayor said that the region already has a dozen African Overseas Immigrant families. They have settled in the region and are contributing to its growth.

The deal is known as Designation Area Migration Agreements or DAMA. It is meant for regions which are facing a severe labor shortage. Under this scheme, provinces can recruit skilled Overseas Immigrants. However, employers must prove that they have failed to find local workers. As quoted by 3aw.com.au, the Overseas Immigrants must agree to spend 3 years in the regions.

Overseas Immigrants should benefit from this deal. The region is looking to hire semi or low skilled workers. The occupations are not listed under the standard Visa system. Hence, those with low skills and moderate grip over the English language should aim for this Visa.

Warrnambool needs a population boost as well. Hence, the Australian Government is offering a pathway to Permanent Residency under this deal. The Visa under this scheme will be called the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa.

The Australian Government said that it wants local businesses in these regions to do well. Also, it acknowledges the skill and labor shortage issue. The problem is most of the migrant population is headed to the main cities. Hence, the country needs strict regulations to ensure equal contribution from Overseas Immigrants to all the regions.

Mr. Scott Morrison, the Prime Minister has confirmed the news. He acknowledged that there is immense pressure to curb Overseas Immigration. However, certain regions need Overseas Immigrants to run their businesses. Also, he expects Overseas Immigrants to create new jobs in the regions thus helping the country’s economy.
