The Government of Vietnam has been urged to pursue open visa policy for enhancing the appeal of the Tourism sector. This appeal was made by the hospitality industry stakeholders in Vietnam. The nation has set a target of receiving 20 million overseas visitors by 2020. It also aims to develop tourism into a crucial sector for the economy.
The stakeholders of the Tourism sector have thus appealed to the government to pursue more open visa policy to achieve these targets. Crucial tourism market nations must also be offered visa exemptions, they have urged, as quoted by the English Vietnam Net.
Vietstar Airlines Deputy General Director Luong Hoai said that the prerequisite of attracting overseas travelers is the open visa policy. He added that travelers are not bothered about costs of visa. But they are uncomfortable with the application process, said Hoai.
Visa policy of Vietnam is considered to be a crucial hindrance for tourism. The costs and processes of visas are making the nation less appealing to overseas visitors when compared with the neighbor nations.
Visa waivers have emerged as a trend globally said Vietnam Tourism Association Vice chairman Vu The Binh. Tourism rivals of the nation are very flexible with their policies for visas, he added.
As of now, only 23 nations enjoy visa exemption from Vietnam. This includes even the fellow members of ASEAN. 169 nations enjoy visa exemption from one of the most liberal visa regime nation such as Indonesia. 158 nations are offered visa waiver by Singapore while Malaysia offers it to 155 nations.
Binh said that visa waiver is in force for nationals of Italy, Spain, Germany, France and the UK from July 2015. It has resulted in increased arrivals of EU nationals and enhanced revenue for Tourism, he added.
