USCIS to accept H-1B visa registrations from March 1, 2022

Great news for candidates applying for H-1B visas!

On January 28, 2022, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the initial registrations for H-1B visas would start on March 1 and remain open till March 18, 2022 for the fiscal year starting October 2022.

In this period, the applicants can finish and submit their registrations through online H-1B registration system.

Details about FY 2023 H-1B cap

The USCIS will assign a confirmation number for every registration submitted for the FY 2023 H-1B cap. This can be tracked by using this registration number. In this new system,  applicants can register and pay a $10 registration fee.

If the USCIS receives enough registrations by March 18, they will randomly select notifications via myUSCIS online accounts. The notifications will be sent to the users by March 31, 2022.

Number of new H-1B visas issued every year

Every year, the country issues 65,000 new H-1B visas, with another 20,000 reserved for US Masters’ degree holders. In this visa program, Indians are known as the biggest beneficiaries, because around 70% of the new visas were issued every year to them.

In the last few years, the USCIS has taken multiple lotteries to allocate all the visas as it did not receive enough applications. This is because of a mixed factors and mostly due to travel restrictions imposed  on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.
