USCIS hikes Premium Processing Fee for Form I-129 & I-140

USCIS has announced that the Premium Processing Fee for Form I-129 & I-140 will be increased by 14.92%. Form I-129 is for Nonimmigrant Worker Petition while Form I-140 is for Alien Workers’ Immigrant Petition. US Citizenship and Immigration Services said that the hike will be effective from 1 October 2018. This is to maintain effective services for petitioners and effective adjudication of petitions, it added.

The premium processing fee will be enhanced by 14.92% by the USCIS. It will thus be 1, 410$ from the existing 1, 225$, as quoted by the USCIS GOV. The increase in fees is as per the US Nationality and Immigration Act. It represents the % change in inflation after the fee was last enhanced in 2010. This is based on the Index for Consumer Price for entire Urban Consumers.

Joseph Moore the USCIS Chief Financial Officer said that the fees were not revised after 2010. This has hindered our ability to enhance services process and adjudications for all petitioners, he added. The reason is that a major increase in demand for benefits of immigration has been witnessed, added Moore.

Increasing the fee will permit us to make the required investments said the Chief Financial Officer. This includes technology as well as staff for efficiently and effectively administering diverse requests for immigration benefits, he added.

Premium processing is offered for an extra fee and is an optional service. It is authorized currently for specific petitioners submitting the Forms I -140 or I-129. This permits 15-day processing of select job-based immigration benefits requests by the petitioners.
