Indian tourists are on a surge in the United States

The US received a total of 1.7 million Indian tourists in 2023, marking a remarkable 20% increase over 2019. By 2027, the targets are anticipated to reach to a total of 2 million, stated Staci Mellman, Chief Marketing Officer of Brand USA, the US destination marketing group.

 

An additional 1.2 million visas were granted to Indian citizens wishing to visit the US in 2023. The US visa lasts for 10 year duration and is more competitive compared to other nations.

250,000 new appointments were scheduled for Indian tourist visas

Mellman acknowledged that although there are challenges related to delays in visa appointments for Indian tourists the measures are being taken to ease the process.

 

In total, India has scheduled 250,000 new appointments for tourist visas, with the Hyderabad embassy accommodating 3,500 visitors daily. Notably, Indian travellers whose visas have expired, the process has been made easier and they will not be required to go for in person appointment for the lapsed period of four years.

India is on fifth position in terms of Indians visiting USA

Mellman stated that Indian tourists visiting the US had the positive response to Brand USA. Florida, California, and New York emerged as the popular destinations for Indians travelling to the USA.

 

India currently holds the fifth position among all countries in terms of Indians visiting the US. Mellman said there is a lot of potential and that she hopes India will move up from the number five spot.

 

Opportunity for US and India building relationships for repeated visitation

 

According to Mellman, the expanding Indian middle class wealth and India’s youth population creates a potential opportunity for building lifetime relationships for repeated visitation.



Indian tourists prefer to remain a little bit longer than other foreign visitors, with an average stay of two weeks. They are also more ready to explore outside of the major gateways and discover more of the United States.
