The Pew Research Center has revealed in its latest study that the US is home to almost one-fifth of the immigrant population in the world. The study has found that the immigrant population of the US exceeded 40 million making the nation as the home to the highest number of the world’s immigrant population. A large number of these overseas immigrants have also acquired the citizenship of the US, as quoted by the Workpermit.
The study further elaborates that record 43.2 million overseas immigrants arrived at the US in the fiscal year 2015-16. After the federal quota regime was replaced by the US immigration authorities, the strength of the immigrant population has increased almost four times.
It has also been identified by the research study that almost 13.4 % of the current US population comprises of the overseas immigrants, which is almost thrice the immigrant population in 1970. The strength of the overseas immigrants in the US will cross 78 million by the year 2065, estimates the Pew Research Center.
As per the analysis of the Pew Research Center by the year 2065, 38% of the overseas immigrants in the US will be of Asia-origin, 31% will be Hispanic, 20% will be of white ethnicity and 9% will be of black ethnicity.
Though most of the overseas immigrants in the US possess a valid visa of the US, around one-fourth of the total immigrants do not possess a valid US visa. The study of the Pew Research Center comes in the backdrop of the vow of the US President to remove illegal overseas immigrants from the US.
