The US has introduced new rules in an effort to prevent misuse and fraud of the appointment system; this will take effect from November 27.
As per the policy change, all applicants for F, M, and J student visas will now have to include their own passport information when setting up their profile and booking their visa appointment. Those who created a profile or scheduled an appointment using false passport number will be cancelled, and corrective changes have to be made by any applicants in this situation.
To set up an appointment; they can either create a new profile with the relevant passport information or access an already-existing profile with the right information. Crucially, a new visa fee receipt needs to be issued if the old one was linked to a profile with false information.
Those who have recently obtained a new passport or renewed one as a result of losing it or being stolen of the old passport, presenting a photocopy or other proof of the previous passport number will enable them to go forward with their appointment.
The purpose of this step is to improve security against fraudulent activity and guarantee the integrity of the visa application process.
