US Immigration Attorney found guilty of refuge fraud

A US Immigration Attorney based in New York – Queens has been found guilty of refuge fraud scheme. This is after an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Manhattan federal court of asylum fraud found Andreea Dumitru guilty on November 19. She was also found guilty of aggravated identity theft and making false statements to immigration authorities.

Aged 43 years Dumitru deliberately made fake representations and statements on 100 plus asylum applications. She is convicted of 1 count of asylum fraud. This carries a maximum 10 years prison sentence.

The US Immigration Attorney is also convicted of making fake statements carrying a maximum 5 years prison sentence. Convicted of 1 count of aggravated identity theft carries a compulsory 2 years consecutive prison sentence for her.

Dumitru operated a scheme for submitting I-589 Forms related to asylum applications. This has been revealed by superseding indictment and other filings in Federal Court in Manhattan. The evidence offered in the trial during March 2013 and 2017 also supports this.

The Attorney submitted more than 100 applications specifically in which she deliberately made false representations and statements. These include individual narratives of alleged persecution by applicants. They also include travel histories and criminal histories, as quoted by the ICE GOV.

Andreea Dumitru intentionally faked lengthy personal stories of supposed mistreatment of her clients. She falsely notarized affidavits and forged her clients’ signatures.

The case is being prosecuted by New York Southern District General Crimes Unit’s US Office of Attorney. The maximum possible sentences ate as prescribed by the US Congress and are just informative. The Judge will determine any sentence of the defendant.
