The immigration bill supported by Trump has been defeated by the US House of Representatives. The bill had advocated merit-based immigration system for the US. It also included provision for eliminating the nation wise quota in the allocation of US Green Cards. This is a setback for President Trump, as quoted by the Economic Times.
The immigration bill supported by Trump was titled as the Immigration and Border Security Reform Act. It was also known as the Goodlatte Bill as it was introduced by Bob Goodlatte the Republican Member of Congress from Virginia. The bill secured 121 votes in its favor and 300 votes against it.
The Republican Congress member, however, failed to garner the support of US lawmakers from his own party. Steny H Hoyer House Democratic Whip said that again the leaders of the Republican Party tabled a partisan bill. It has failed miserably, added Hoyer.
The voting of the US House on Trump supported immigration bill makes it clear again that only a bipartisan bill can protect Dreamers. Only this process will secure votes bipartisan votes, said Todd Schultz. He is the President of FWD US backed by top IT firms in the US.
Schultz said that the bill was opposed though it contained some good factors. Nevertheless, it also included dangerous cuts to levels of legal immigration. It also permitted infinite detention of children and families.
The immigration bill also neglected the bipartisan process said the FWD US President. This is immensely required for the signing of legislation into law, he added.
