Even as India has flagged its concerns over the proposed changes to US H-1B Visa system, the US government has given a much-needed clarification. Thomas Vajda Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for State has said that US H-1B Visa system remains unchanged. No legislation has been passed for this category of visa and the rules continue to remain the same, he added.
The law for US H-1B Visa system remains as before explained Thomas Vajda. US President Trump had ordered for a review of this visa system. However, no changes have been implemented; he clarified, as quoted by the NDTV.
Many proposals with respect to H-1B visa have been tabled in the US Congress said the Deputy Assistant Secretary for State. However, none of them have been passed as legislation and the system remains as it was earlier, clarified Thomas Vajda. He was addressing the reporters after deliberating with the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry members.
The Commerce Minister of India Suresh Prabhu had earlier said that L1 and H1B visas have facilitated the arrival of professionals from India to the US. The issue of these visas has been strongly flagged with Washington, the Minister added.
Thomas Vajda Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for State said that the US considers energy sector as the most thriving area for enhancing economic activities. He was responding to the question about the reduction of pet coke imports from the US.
Mr. Vajda added that the US is dedicated to enhancing export in energy sector and assistance for the development of Indian economy. He mentioned the signing of a contract between Nuclear Power Corporation of India and Westinghouse Electric Company for building 6 nuclear reactors in India.
