US Green Card

The delays in US Green Cards, Citizenship, and other immigration benefit applications have been condemned by the American Immigration Lawyers Association. AILA has said that the wait times increased by over twice in the last 4 years. However, the numbers of immigration applications have increased only marginally, it added.

AILA has said that US Citizenship and Immigration Services is shifting its focus towards enforcement of immigration from serving immigrant applicants. Immigration Lawyers are now demanding enhanced supervision by the Congress.

A USCIS Spokesperson said that several factors influence the processing times for US Green Cards and Citizenship. However, longer waiting times are frequently owing to high rates of application, added the Spokesperson.

Nevertheless, AILA points out to the report in 2018 by the Homeland Security Department. It reveals that the net backlog of USCIS cases doubled during the FY 2017. However, there was only a 4% increase in its applications, as quoted by the Economic Times.

US Immigration Lawyers have said that the processing of immigrant Visas by the USICS has reached a sluggish pace. The average case processing time by USCIS was 46% longer than in 2016 according to AILA.  In comparison with 2014 when Barack Obama was the US President, the average time for case processing was 91% longer in 2018.

AILA added that its calculations are based on the data published by the USICS recently. The processing of petitions and applications for immigration benefits by USCIS has reached emergency level delays under Trump administration. These delays are harming families and helpless people throughout the nation. It also includes businesses in the US that rely on timely adjudications, added AILA.
