US-based IT staffing firm fined $300,000 for H-1B Visa Salary breach

People Tech Group Inc has been fined $300,000 for H-1B Visa Salary breach. It is a Redmond based US staffing firm with offices in Hyderabad and Bangalore. The firm has also been asked to make payment of 45,000 $ for breaching the US labor laws. The firm paid far low salaries to 12 of its H-1B workers.

The H-1B Visa Salary breach by the firm was revealed by the investigation, as quoted by the Economic Times. It was conducted by the Labour Wage and Hour Division Department in the US. The findings of the investigation concluded that the firm breached the labor laws pertaining to the H-1B Visa program.

The firm paid its overseas workers far lesser than the required salary, said the Labour Wage and Hour Division Department. It has been asked to pay 309, 914$ to 12 of its overseas workers on H-1B Visa.

H-1B Visa permits US firms to hire overseas workers in specialist jobs that mandate expertise – technical or theoretical. It is a visa under the non-immigrant category.

The investigation elaborated that the firm paid entry-level salaries to H-1B Computer Programmers and Computer Analysts. These performed jobs of much more experienced workers. They should have also been offered higher salaries, said the Labor Department.

The firm also did not pay wages to these workers when it did not offer them work. This is also a breach of labor laws, said the Department. It has also maintained a list of willful violators. Most of them are Indo-Americans or firms that they own.
