As of now, Australia’s borders remain closed.
International travel from Australia is being strictly controlled towards preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Currently, international travel from Australia is only available if an individual is –
· exempt from the travel restrictions in place, or · has been granted an individual and specific exemption for travel. |
As per the Department of Home Affairs of the Australian government, “Travel restrictions are subject to change in response to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19.”

In view of the COVID-19 related travel restrictions, Australian permanent residents or citizens of Australia cannot leave Australia unless they have an exemption.
The exemption might be applied for online.

From August 11, 2021, Australian permanent residents and citizens of Australia ordinarily resident in a country outside Australia will not be automatically exempt from the outward travel restrictions currently in place by the Australian government.
Such individuals are advised by the DHA to apply — with effect from August 11, 2021 — through the Travel Exemption Portal for a travel exemption.
