UK Tier 1 Visas for exceptional talents have been approved 4 times more for tech jobs as per the UK Tech City the UK government body. It is the body that processes the visa applications for UK Tier 1 Visas for exceptional talents.
In the previous fiscal year, 260 applications for UK Tier 1 Visas for exceptional talents were approved, as quoted by the Workpermit. The Tech industry in the UK has demanded special measures to facilitate recruiting overseas workers after the UK’s EU exit. The increase in the numbers of applications for UK Tier 1 Visas for exceptional talents and increased visa approval has been welcomed by the UK Tech industry.
The UK Tech sector had anticipated that its access to skilled IT coders would be affected by the curbs on free movement after the UK exits the EU. The tech visa scheme was established by the former UK Prime Minister Cameron in 2014. It was started in attempts to make London the Tech Capital of EU. The visas were also aimed at competing with the US Silicon Valley as the destination for Tech start-ups.
The anxiety of scarcity of skilled IT coders in the UK motivated Cameron to launch the initiative for ‘Tech Nation’ visas. This initiative facilitates the UK Tech City to support the visa applications filed by the overseas workers outside the EU. It also permits the successful applicants to remain in the UK for 5 years. After this, they can apply to remain in the UK for an indefinite time also known as the settlement.
UK Tech City received 380 applications for UK Tier 1 Visas for exceptional talents. It approved 260 visas exceeding the annual cap of 200 visas.
