The Liberal Democrat MP Ed Davey has said that the UK immigration system needs radical revamping. The party will debate and decide the same at its conference next month for overhauling the UK immigration system.
The new approach must respect the humanity and dignity of all immigrants, asylum seekers, and refugees. It must combine efficient applications processing with effectual immigration rules enforcement, added the MP.
The party would take away policymaking from the UK Home Office that is now discredited, said the Member of Parliament. The immigration targets will be eliminated as well as the hostile ambiance for immigrants in the UK. Detention will be absolutely made the last resort, said Ed Davey, as quoted by the Independent Co UK.
The diverse and innumerable benefits of immigration must be conveyed to the communities and celebrated. The benefits to public services and UK economy as well also needs to be highlighted, said the MP.
For achieving the objectives regarding immigration, the Education and Business Department in the UK will be made in-charge by the party said, Ed Davey. They will govern the rules regarding UK Student Visas and UK Work Visas and not the Home Office said the MP.
The party will also permit refugees and asylum seekers to work within 3 months of arrival to the UK said, Ed Davey. It will encourage the overseas students to come to the UK. This is for studying, researching and teaching.
Elaborating on the radical revamping of the UK immigration system the MP said that NHS must be able to hire the Nurses and Doctors that it needs. UK businesses must also be able to hire best overseas talents, said the MP.
