The Ugandan government has cut down fee for single entry tourist visas from $100 to $50 in a bid to attract more visitors. It would be effective from 22 July.
According to the CNN, Uganda was among the 16 top tourist destinations in the world. Lonely Planet, a popular tourism magazine, ranked Uganda as the top tourist destination in the world. Bloom Consulting, a company which brands countries and cities, ranked Uganda as the most popular tourist destination in 2014.
Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable and Murchison Falls National Parks have also been ranked as top tourist spots in different magazines.
New Vision quotes Ugandan internal affairs ministry as stating on 21 July that it issued a statutory instrument to effect the changes in visa fees. The fee for multiple and transit permit tourist visas, however, remain unchanged.
Figures revealed by the tourism ministry say that more than 1.2 million tourists visited Uganda in 2015. Tourism is one the largest foreign exchange earners for Uganda.
