The UAE launches online service for expats to return

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation [MoFAIC] of the UAE has launched a new online service targeted at expats that have valid visas and are currently abroad. WAM, the Emirates News Agency, reported on March 21.

The new service – Tawajudi for residents – is available on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Intended for residents holding valid residencies that are outside the UAE, Tawajudi for residents aims at facilitating the safe return of such residents to the UAE in case of emergency situations.

Emergencies such as those posed by the recent coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic worldwide.

Residents that are currently abroad can register online for the service through the website of the MoFAIC’s official website. Go to the main page of the website and click “Individuals Services”. Now, click on “Tawajudi for residents”.

According to WAM, this “unprecedented step” comes from the keenness of the Ministry to ensure the health as well as safety of residents on its land, along with facilitating their return to the UAE in emergency cases.

The government of the UAE had earlier banned all non-Emirati nationals from coming back to the country over COVID-19.

On March 17, the Ministry had urged Emiratis that were abroad to return to the UAE. This was done in view of the rapid outbreak of coronavirus and the subsequent suspension of air connectivity with many countries.

In the statement, the Ministry called on Emirati nationals undergoing medical treatment abroad and Emirati students to get in touch with the UAE embassies in the respective host countries in this regard.

Emiratis can register online for Tawajudi through the website and the mobile application of the Ministry.
