U.S. reopens its borders Good news for Canadians willing to travel the U.S.  The U.S. reopens its borders for fully vaccinated travelers from Canada starting from November 2021. It reopens its border to non-essential travel from Canada starting in November. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas declared that fully vaccinated travelers from Canada and Mexico could enter the country from land and seaports of entry.
“In alignment with the new international air travel system that will be implemented in November, we will begin allowing travelers from Mexico and Canada who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to enter the United States for non-essential purposes, including to visit friends and family or for tourism, via land and ferry border crossings,” Mayorkas said in a government media release. Cross-border travel creates significant economic activity in our border communities and benefits our broader economy. We are pleased to be taking steps to resume regular travel in a safe and sustainable manner.
The U.S. reopens its border in two phases. Phase 1: In November, fully vaccinated travelers can enter the U.S. by land or ferry if they can present the proof of vaccination. Travelers who are not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 are not allowed to cross the border. Phase 2: In early January 2022, the second phase in the U.S. will begin allowing all essential and non-essential travelers to be fully vaccinated in order to cross the land or sea border. These travelers includes truckers, students, and healthcare workers. There are no exact dates when these new rules will be implemented and goes into effect. Congressman Brian Higgins, has applauded this move. He is advocating for the border to reopen from long-time. Tweet from Brian Higgins "At long last, there is action by the U.S. to open the doors & welcome back our Canadian neighbors beginning in November. This is good news for businesses & families that have suffered under the continued border shutdown."
