Australia has emerged as a popular destination for international students.  According to a report released by the Department of Education of the Australian government, there are more than 70,000 international students enrolled in Australian universities. The wide choice of courses and the post-study work options offered to international students make it an attractive study abroad destination.

 

Here is a list of the top ten universities in Australia according to the QS world university rankings for 2020:

  1. Australian National University (ANU)

Established in 1946, the Australian National University (ANU) is in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. The University offers a range of courses and contains research centers for various subjects. 9000 international students come to study at ANU every year.

 

  1. University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne is ranked at number 2 in Australia and is placed at number 32 among world universities. Nearly 40 percent of its students come from outside Australia.  The University of Melbourne is well known for its research prospects and scholarships to international students.

 

  1. The University of Sydney

The University of Sydney is one of the oldest universities in Australia and was established in 1850.  It is included in the top 50 universities in the world. The university has excellent infrastructure and facilities.

 

  1. The University of New South Wales

The University of South Wales (USW) has branches in the U.K as well. The university is known for its partnership with major companies that helps its students find jobs after their studies.

 

  1. The University of Queensland (UQ)

The University of Queensland (UQ) offers world-class facilities and exchange student programs. It is located in Brisbane.

 

  1. Monash University

Monash University is located primarily in Melbourne but has five campuses in Victoria State and two overseas campuses in Malaysia and South Africa. It is among the 50 best universities in the world.

The University of Western Australia is known for the proportion of foreign faculty members and for the number of citations per faculty member.

 

  1. University of Adelaide

This university is known for its research activities. It is recognized by the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA), a national research evaluation framework conducted by the Australian Research Council (ARC).

 

  1. University of Technology, Sydney

UTS is one of the youngest top Australian universities, established in its current form in 1988. Improving its global rank by 20 places this year, UTS is ranked within the world’s top 100 for four of the six ranking indicators, including employer reputation.

 

  1. Newcastle University

Newcastle University was established in 1965 and has its main campus in Newcastle's Callaghan suburb, New South Wales. This has about 26,600 students spread across six campuses across the world.
