The top 10 overseas destinations for Indian travelers are topped by the US followed by Thailand at the second place and the UAE at the third position. The latest Hotel Price Index witnessed Indian travelers reaffirming their preferences for short distance locations in the Asia Pacific. These include Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Travelers expense for overnight accommodation increased by 2% in 2017 globally. This is after 3 years of stagnant prices, as quoted by the Financial Express. Each regional index grew in 2017 except for North America. This is an indication of strong growth in the overseas travel sector.
In its inaugural year in 2004, the HPI was set at 100. This index format permits Hotels.com to outline the yearly variations in actual prices paid by travelers per night. It is unaffected by the fluctuations in the foreign exchange.
Hotels.com President Johan Svanstrom said that there is a marginal increase in the average global accommodation prices. This is along with several overseas destinations witnessing record growth in arrivals of visitors. It indicates a strong economy for the travel sector and consumers desire to travel globally, added Svanstrom.
Cultural events are also another factor that has propelled overseas travel by Indians. This is because travelers no longer intend to be spectators of action but instead intend to actually participate in it.
The HPI for 2018 also revealed that outbound Indian travelers paid lesser per room for every night stay in the 6 out of top 10 overseas destinations. This is notwithstanding the overall increase in accommodation prices globally.
