The 2020 Dice Salary Report gives the latest information on the top salaries in the technology field. In order to get information on the top technology salaries in the US, Dice did a survey of more than 12,800 technology companies over two months. The report gives details of the skills that are in demand and points out cities and states in the US where tech employees earn more.

If you are looking at a tech career in the US, this data will be relevant to you.

Top salaries by skill

The report indicates that newer skills do not necessarily mean higher salaries because those with experience in older skills still have the potential to earn higher salaries.

Salaries in cities

A surprising discovery by the report is the salary levels in cities considered non-traditional tech hubs were on par with the salaries in traditional tech hubs such as Seattle and Silicon Valley. Cities like St. Louis, Denver, and Boston showed a year-over-year growth in salaries.

Though Silicon Valley and Seattle topped the list of top-paying cities for technologists, the high cost of living in these cities negated this factor.

Top occupations

The occupations that saw the highest increase in salary were those related to data. Any occupation that involved the collection, storage and analysis of data or build applications for them fetched a high salary.

The 2020 Dice Salary report indicates that tech workers can hope to earn more in certain cities where there is demand. Of course, they should also have the right skills and experience.
