Switzerland is set to centralize its visa processing facilities in India by 2016, to offer all visa services under one roof to Indian visitors. In view of growing visa applications, Switzerland aims to simplify the process by consolidating its services at one place.
The Economic Times quoted Embassy of Switzerland, Ambassador, Dr Linus von Castelmur, saying, "We are planning to centralize the visa processing centers. This is from the Embassy side. Right now for people from Chennai, visa gets processed in Mumbai through the VFS. In future, it will be centralized and processed in New Delhi."
India ranks second with 95,000 applications after Germany which gets 115,000 visa applications processed each year.
He further said, "Think Innovation, Think Switzerland," would be Switzerland's theme for 2015-16.
Every year thousands of Indians visit Switzerland for leisure, to attend meetings & seminars, for work and business, and to study. The new centralized visa processing system will allow them to get their visa hassle-free without having to go from one VFS office to another.
Currently, the applications received from Chennai are processed in Mumbai, however, once the system is unified, all applications will be processed in New Delhi.
