The strength of Indian students at overseas universities has increased considerably

The strength of Indian students immigrating overseas for education is increasing at a faster rate than the earlier times. As per the report of the New Delhi’s MM Advisory Services, excluding the UK, the numbers of Indian students to the US, Canada, Australia, Germany and New Zealand increased at a faster pace than the total overseas students to these nations.

The emerging trend in overseas immigration of Indian students indicates that Germany is increasingly emerging as favored destination and is projected to leave behind the UK as the most favored destination of overseas students in the Europe. Germany had attracted around 340,000 overseas students when compared to the 450,000 students in the UK, as quoted by the Universityworldnews.

The recent immigration policies of the UK are making it tougher for the overseas students to obtain the visas and the students from India are most affected by this.

The report also revealed that the percentage of students from India to Germany increased by 24% with 11, 655 students immigrating to the nation, leaving behind Russia as the favored destination. The lower cost of higher education in Germany will only increase the strength of Indian students’ there, as per the report.

According to the report, owing to the smart and effective initiatives that are being rolled out by Germany to appeal to the overseas students, it is projected that Germany will soon take over the United Kingdom and emerge as the leading hub of global education in Europe in the next few years.

Germany had garnered much international attention last year when it announced that the tuition fees for overseas students will be waived. This decision was preceded by virtually no growth of international students arriving at the nation in the past five years.

This decision to waive the tuition fees has made several overseas students consider Germany as their option for international education, who had earlier preferred nations such as the US that incur the high expenditure of education.

The overall package now offered by Germany is so appealing to the overseas students that they consider the language constraint to be manageable. Moreover, Germany is a nation that is strong in technology and research, apart from being a leading nation in Europe. It is considered to be the destination of high-end technology said the director of MM Advisory Services Maria Mathai.

Mathai also added that the increase in the strength of Indian students immigrating overseas is due to the scarcity of seats for even the top talented students in the leading Indian institution. Even the students who secure above 90% are not assured of a seat in the preferred institution of their choice.

Moreover, the ever increasing pressure from the academies for the Indian students was less likely to decrease in the future even for the best of the lot and the students who are immigrating overseas are the best brains, explained Mathai.

The increasing purchasing power of the middle class in India is also one of the factors in the increase of Indian students immigrating overseas, added the report.
