Slovakia has eased Work visa rules for immigrant workers and hiring overseas workers has now become flexible. The Parliament has passed amendments to the law for recruitment services that will become effective from 1 May 2018. The changes will ease the hiring of overseas workers.
Selected occupations for which firms are unable to identify workers will be able to hire foreign workers owing to eased Work visa rules. Districts that have an unemployment rate of less than 5% also can hire Overseas Immigrants easily. However, the total numbers of immigrant workers cannot exceed higher than 30% of all the workers in any firm, as quoted by the Spectator SME SK.
For jobs that have been identified, the simplified process will be applicable for overseas nationals for receiving united permits. It will not be required to give details of vacancies in these cases as per the new rules. The list of occupations for which firms are not able to find workers will be decided by a commission on a tripartite level. This will be revealed on the Labor Ministry website and will be updated every year.
Easing work visa rules for Overseas Workers will assist businesses in Slovakia to address the existing scarcity of qualified workers. By the end of 2017 December, 49, 478 overseas workers were registered by the Labor ministry in Slovakia. Out of these, EU nationals comprised 27, 726 and they do not require any special work permit. Remaining 21, 752 were non-EU nationals. Majority of the non-EU nationals are from Vietnam, Ukraine, and Serbia.
Evaluated with 2016, the sum of overseas workers in Slovakia enhanced by 14, 388. By 2016 December, the numbers of overseas workers in Slovakia was 35, 090.
