The province of Saskatchewan in Canada has held its third round of provincial invitations in 2021.

In the latest Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program [SINP] draw held on February 11, a total of 541 invitations – 344 to Express Entry and another 197 to Occupations In-Demand candidates – have been issued.

The SINP offers various immigration pathways for those looking to migrate overseas to Canada and settle within Saskatchewan.

What is meant by Expression of Interest [EOI]?

The first step of the process for candidates applying through the SINP categories of Express Entry or Occupations In-Demand would be the creation of their Expression of Interest [EOI] profile.

Those successful in submitting an EOI will be entered into the EOI pool.

Valid for 1 year [from the submission date], only 1 active EOI profile can be created per candidate at any time.

Based on the information provided, the candidates will be ranked. It is the highest-ranked candidates that are invited – though EOI draws – to apply to the SINP.

Do keep in mind that a candidate cannot have an EOI profile for both the Express Entry as well as the Occupations In-Demand categories of the SINP at the same time.

Typically, the SINP limits the selection of EOIs per occupation ensuring that “positive employment prospects in Saskatchewan are selected and nominations do not exceed employment demand”.

On a minimum, SINP selection rounds are held on a bi-monthly basis.

How does a provincial nomination help an Express Entry candidate?

A nomination by a provincial or territorial [PT] government – under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada – leads to an Express Entry candidate automatically being given 600 ‘additional’ points that are added to their Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score.

With their profile thus boosted towards the top of the Express Entry pool, the candidate is guaranteed an Invitation to Apply [ITA] in the subsequent federal Express Entry draw to be held.

As of February 8, 2021, there were a total of 152,714 Express Entry profiles in the pool of candidates. Of these, only 603 were in the 601 to 1,200 CRS range.

In 2020, the SINP invited a total of 8,283 candidates to apply for a SINP nomination for Canadian permanent residence. 3,854 got invitations through the SINP’s Express Entry category.
