Scotland Even as Theresa May, the British PM, is determined to quit the European Union as soon as possible, Scotland stated on 3 April that owing to its different population trends, it needs powers to import migrants to aid its public services and  economy. According to the estimates of the Scottish government, net migration will allow its population to increase by 90 percent over the next ten years. Included among these migrants would be people from outside the UK as well as from other areas within Britain. It was decided by the Scottish Chambers of Commerce that Scotland should have a different migration system because of its depleted population growth rate. A ScotCen survey published in the first week of April stated that 61 percent of Scots favour freedom of movement to continue to safeguard the single market membership of their country. Stuart McMillan, a Scottish National Party member, was quoted by EurActiv as saying that population growth was crucial for the well-being of Scotland economy and its public services, although the British government was trying to put to an end entry of workers their country needed for its economic development. He added that polls had steadily shown that Scots support freedom of movement. This is why Scotland should be given the power to decide its own future. McMillan asked as to why Scottish people should be asked to choose between Brexit and independence. In fact, Alasdair Allan, the Scotland government’s Minister for International Development and Europe, said that their country’s interest would be better served if it was not part of Britain.
