Nationals of Saudi Arabia applying for new Canada Study Visas or extension of the Student Visa may need to offer extra evidence for funds. This has been announced by the Government of Canada. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has issued an update in this regard.
IRCC said that Visa Officers must ask for extra evidence of funds. This is from applicants who possess a scholarship from Saudi Arabia. These must also not be undergraduate scholarship students in the last year of the bachelor programs, graduate students or medical trainees.
The affected applicants will be given 30 days time by the Officers to offer evidence of funds. This is prior to their decision on afresh Canada Student Visas or extension for Student Visas.
The Visa Officer must refuse the application, said IRCC. This is in scenarios wherein the applicants are unable to offer evidence for funds. Also, the Visa Officer is not convinced that the applicants will be able to support themselves and pay the tuition fees.
Undergraduate scholarship students in the last year of the bachelor programs, graduate students or medical trainees from Saudi Arabia are exempt from this requirement. For these applicants and dependents, IRCC only needs financial sponsorship certificates. These are from the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia Cultural Bureau and will be accepted as evidence for funds.
The applications of specific citizens of Saudi Arabia for Student Visas will be processed usually. These are those who do not possess Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s scholarship and offer other evidence for funds.
The Saudi Arabia Kingdom had canceled the funds for its scholarship programs in Canada from 31 August 2018. This was due to the criticism of its human rights records by Canada, as quoted by the CIC News.
