Saudi Arabia issues over 1 million Umrah Visas this year

Saudi Arabia has issued a total of 1,050,665 Umrah Visas till 9^th November this year during the ongoing Umrah season. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Haj and Umrah, Saudi Arabia.

More than 838,464 pilgrims arrived in Saudi Arabia this year. At present, there are about 298,002 pilgrims still in the country.

According to a statistical report, a majority of all the pilgrims (806,251) came to Saudi Arabia through airports. 32,210 pilgrims arrived through land ports while just 3 pilgrims arrived through seaports.

The statistical report also revealed that 540,462 pilgrims left Saudi Arabia after their pilgrimage.

Over 7 million pilgrims arrived in Saudi Arabia during the last Umrah season. The last Umrah season started from late October 2018. The largest number of pilgrims belonged to Pakistan. Indonesia and India were next in line.

The Umrah season for 2019 began in August.

The Ministry of Haj and Umrah recently amended the rules for Umrah companies. Umrah companies are now allowed to extend Umrah programs. They can also purchase service packages through “Maqam”, a central reservation portal.

Muslims from all over the world can apply for an Umrah package online through the Maqam portal. The portal also helps to compare prices of various service providers, check flight status, check flight bookings and make online visa applications. You do not need to travel to a diplomatic mission for your Umrah trip.

Using the Maqam system, Umrah pilgrims and service providers, transport companies and hotels can contract directly through international travel platforms.

You can also apply for an e-Visa through the Maqam portal without the need for paperwork. The portal works in co-ordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Haj and Umrah and the National Information Centre.
