Shop Qatar, the biggest shopping festival in this Middle Eastern country, has been able to attract more International Visitors after the nation introduced new visa measures, according to a QTA (Qatar Tourism Authority) official.
Alshaima al-Shaikh, QTA’s head of tourism events and festival organisation section, was quoted by Gulf Times as saying that they were feeling nice after seeing more visitors attend it from neighbouring Oman and Kuwait in addition to other international visitors because of its New Visa Policies.
Addressing reporters at a press conference on Shop Qatar on 15 January, she said that they were witnessing a great response and announced many activities for the Bollywood Week of the annual festival.
Indians are also among those who are eligible to Visit Qatar Visa-Free as per the country’s new measures which were implemented in 2017.
Al-Shaikh also appreciated QTA’s efforts at its representative offices in various countries for projecting this Gulf country as an attractive destination for business and leisure to lure more tourists from all over the world.
The free Transit Visa of Qatar is also attracting many passengers wanting to enter and experience the country’s various tourism offerings.
The rise in visitors was also seen in the increasing number of vouchers during this year’s festival’s first five days.
It is said that 25,000 vouchers were registered in this year’s five days as against the 21,000 during the first five days of Shop Qatar in 2017. The festival, in its first week, also saw 15 people winning many cash prizes and two BMW cars.
Two more raffle draws are slated to take place on 18 January and 25 January at Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall and at Tawar Mall, respectively. And a final raffle would be held on 8 February 8 at Doha Festival City at the festival's closing ceremony.
The second week of Shop Qatar, which has been named the Bollywood Week, will host many entertainment shows and activities by artists from India.
Participating in it will be popular Indian actress, Kareena Kapoor, Bollywood designers such as Pallavi Jaipur, Ankita Chaudhry, Archana Kochar and Vikram Phadnis and also Sonu Nigam, a renowned Indian singer.
