QTA (Qatar Tourism Authority) together with Qatar Airways have announced that they launched a new transit visa scheme, which allows passengers with transit time with minimum of five hours to opt for a complimentary visa at Doha’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) from 1 November.
Henceforth, passengers on a transit belonging to all nationalities can stay in Qatar for up to four days. Qatari Ministry of Interior issues visas at its discretion.
The scheme was introduced to promote Qatar’s tourism, which would attract more international tourists and in the bargain boosts the country’s economy.
Free transit visas can be applied through any of the offices of Qatar Airways or online as well.
Eligible for these visas are passengers who have a confirmed ticket for travel via Qatar and a confirmed onward flight out of Doha on a flight operated by Qatar Airways. More information can be found on the website of the airlines.
To attract more passengers to avail this transit visa, fares have been restructured by Qatar Airways for its international flights through HIA. From now on, passengers will be allowed a free stopover in Doha without needing to pay additional charges for their tickets.
