In a bid to promote Qatar Airways, Qatar modified its visa scheme, allowing passengers having at least a transit time of five hours in Doha’s Hamad International airport (HIA) to stay in this country for up to four days without their requiring to apply for an entry visa.
This was announced by the government of Qatar along with Qatar Airways. As per the old transit visa structure, passengers arriving in Qatar with a minimum five hours of transit time could stay for up to two days.
Buying Business Travel said that this was an initiative of the state-owned air carrier of the Southwest Asian country located in the Arabian Peninsula to make stopovers more comfortable and luring to its foreign passengers.
It is also expected to give a leg up to the local economy. The transit visa of Qatar is free and would be available at HIA on arrival to passengers of all countries, once their onward journey is confirmed and passport control procedures are completed.
The Ministry of Interior of Qatar approves all visas and issues them as per its discretion.
Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group CEO, said that Qatar Airways caters to millions of people across the world who travel across their network of more than 150 destinations. He added that their aim was to enhance the travel experience of all its passengers travelling for business or leisure and so their fares were also being reconstituted to demonstrate this.
