The debate in the Parliament of Scotland for seeking a referendum for independence from the UK will resume on Tuesday. This was informed by a Spokesperson of the Parliament and the members of the Parliament are anticipated to support Sturgeon. The vote for seeking the support of the Parliament for backing the referendum for independence from the UK was delayed as a mark of respect after the attack on the UK parliament.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has demanded a referendum on independence from the UK following refusal to give a separate deal for Scotland on the relations with the EU after Brexit.
The Parliament of Scotland had earlier issued a statement and expressed concern regarding lapses in security. The statement said that security measures would be increased in the backdrop of a terrorist attack on the UK Parliament in London.
The permission from London is required for a new referendum by Scotland as any vote bound by law that has an effect on the constitutional affairs of the UK must be approved by the parliament of the UK.
The Prime Minister of UK Theresa May has not completely rejected the independence vote for Scotland while terming Scotland as a valuable union of Britain. She had, however, earlier termed the decision by Sturgeon to seek a referendum for freedom as an ill-conceived idea.
