Overseas workers want more labor law safety in Beijing

Overseas domestic workers have said that they can move to Beijing if its labor safety laws are made more extensive than Macau. Municipal Commission of Commerce Beijing said that it is reviewing to permit overseas professionals to be accompanied by their own domestic workers. There will be an amendment made to facilitate this.

Domestic workers who possess overseas passports will be allowed to work in Beijing. This includes those who are working in Macau and Hong Kong. It will be under the clause that the employers must possess a Work Visa or PR in Beijing. The employers will also be required to offer personal guarantee and employment contract for the domestic workers, as quoted by the Macau Daily Times.

The authorities in Beijing said that the changed laws will assist to attract highly skilled overseas talents. It will also enhance the domestic service system of the city, they added. As of now, overseas domestic services are not legal in the capital of China.

Some of the domestic workers are optimistic that the measures will be passed as per the provisions of the mutual agreement signed between China and their home nation. They said that they are ready to relocate to the Chinese capital if the salary and labor protection laws are on par with the national standards in China. Indonesian Macau Workers Union President Yosa Wariyanti said that domestic workers desire to have a firm legal policy. They also expect standard contact prior to moving to the Chinese capital, he added. The workers have said that they expect higher pay in Beijing than Macau and Hong Kong.
