Overseas nationals will require Cambodia Work Permits for long-term visas as confirmed by the official of the Immigration Department of Cambodia. The overseas immigrants who intend to extend their business visas will be required to submit Cambodia Work Permits. This rule has become effective from September 2017.
Visa extensions Deputy Chief in-charge Ouk Sophal said that overseas immigrants will be required to submit Cambodia Work Permits if they intend to extend their business visas for 6 months or 12 months. However, the rule will be applicable only for their second application for extension of the visas, as quoted by the Phnom Penh Post.
After their first arrival, they can avail the extension for 6 months to 12 months without the work permit, elaborated Visa extensions Deputy Chief in-charge Ouk Sophal. For applicants whose work permits are under process at present a receipt acknowledging the application will be adequate for them to avail the required extension of visa, added Sophal.
Ouk Sophal elaborated that the Visa department of Cambodia was considering permitting the immigrants without work permits. They must, however, submit an apology letter for the lapse and indicate the address of their current employer in Cambodia. The immigration officials will then examine if the immigrants had applied for the work permit after their next renewal of visa, he explained.
Visa extensions Deputy Chief in-charge informed that he was yet to confirm if the new rule was applicable to other visas apart from business visas. He directed the queries to the Foreign Ministry of Cambodia. Cina Travel agency’s Hong Vicheta said that there was ambiguity over the new rule. But it was revealed that the employment letter will be required, said Vicheta.
