Outstanding achievements of Six Indian-Americans in their respective fields of specialization will be honored at the 25th Anniversary awards banquet. It is being held on 4 November by the Indian American Kerala Cultural and Civic center.
The event to honor the Six Indian-Americans will be held at Marina in Flushing World Fair at 6:30 pm. Sandeep Chakraborty the Consul General of India in New York will be the chief guest. The keynote speaker for the evening will be Dr. Abraham George, as quoted by the Times of India.
The list is topped by Pramila Jayapal the member of US Congress representing the 7th largest Congressional district in Washington. She is the first Indian-American lady to be elected to the House of Representatives in the US. Ms. Jayapal will be honored for Political Leadership.
The honor for Legal Services will be conferred upon Attorney Appen Menon. He is a partner at New York’s Galef, Wormser, Kiely & Jacobs LLP law firm. For literature, the honor will be awarded to Dr. Sheela, the writer. In Humanities section the honor goes to Dr. AKB Pillai while for community service it will be conferred to Sheela Sreekumar, the Community volunteer.
Thambi Thalappillil President of Indian American Kerala Cultural and Civic center said that nominations are invited every year. The committee then makes a unanimous choice for a candidate in a particular category. In terms of achievements this year has been on par with the previous years, said Thambi Thalappillil.
Dr. Abraham George the founder of Shanti Bhavan will be conferred the Life Time Achievers award for the 25th Jubilee Year. This award will also be given to Dr. Muhammed Majeed Chairman and Founder of Sami-Sabinsa Group and Sreedhar Menon, Philanthropist. Dilip Varghese Entrepreneur and P Somasundaran Columbia University Professor are also the other awardees in this section.
