  • Six-Month Window: Professionals can work for up to six months while completing the full registration process with Ontario’s regulatory body.
  • Wide Coverage: The framework applies to more than 50 regulatory authorities and 300 certifications, covering sectors like engineering, architecture, and skilled trades.
  • Healthcare Access: Key healthcare roles, including physicians, surgeons, nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and medical lab technologists—are included under the new rules.

Making the Most of Ontario’s New Labour Mobility Rules

Ontario’s “As of Right” framework, launching on January 1, 2026, offers skilled workers a much faster route to begin their careers in the province.

To benefit from these changes, professionals can follow a simple pathway:

Step 1: Find your regulator

Each regulated profession in Ontario is overseen by a specific regulatory authority. The first step is to identify the body that governs your field.

Step 2: Apply under mobility provisions

Submit your application under the labour mobility process, ensuring it meets the authority’s requirements.

Step 3: Prepare your documents

Credentials, proof of certification, and other supporting materials will be needed to verify your eligibility.

Step 4: Get a timely decision

Ontario’s regulators are required to make a decision within 30 calendar days, eliminating long delays.

Step 5: Start working quickly

Once validated, you can begin working in Ontario within 10 business days, with up to six months provided to complete full registration.

This streamlined process ensures that qualified professionals can enter Ontario’s workforce faster, giving both workers and employers the chance to meet labour market needs without unnecessary waiting periods.
