Canadian province of Ontario has recently passed Ontario Immigration Act to ensure that the province benefits from skilled immigration procedures. The Act will allow Ontario to participate in selection process of skilled immigrants based on its requirements and skill priorities.
There has been a notable increase in skilled migration to Canada in the past few years. Many of these migrants who moved to Canada have settled in Ontario and have contributed immensely to its economic growth. They also helped it remain one of the competitive markets in the world.
The new Immigration Act will enable the province to bring skilled talent to its turf using Federal government's recently launched Canada Express Entry program. It can play a bigger role in selection, admission and application processing of international applicants who apply to work and live permanently in Canada.
The Act will further ensure reduction in immigration fraud and in maintaining fair selection process and better accountability. As a result, Ontario can bring in the talent it requires to improve its economy and to expand the scope of its existing Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
And since many provinces in Canada have their own skilled immigration programs, this new legislation will ensure transparency among all other provincial partners participating in skilled migration programs.
