The Royal Oman Police (ROP) rolled out a new online e-visa system where His Excellency Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, was present, intending to make visiting Oman much easier than before.
The new streamlined online system was devised with the intent of making it convenient for hotels and many tour operators to book travel visas for visitors entering Oman.
The Times of Oman quotes ROP as stating that people could apply for Omani visas from any location in the world and receive them in just five minutes. It added that they hoped that online visa processes would be increased from current two percent online to 98 percent online.
The ROP created a new website to allow visitors for keying in their nationality and state if they are living in Oman. Following this, various visa types appear allowing visitors to apply for one of their options.
Presently, two types of visas are only available. They are business and tourist visas and are only available to nationals belonging to List 1-67 countries and residents of the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) with the 116 permitted job positions. This site allows even expatriates owning properties in the Sultanate of Oman to renew or get their documents.
The police said the new e-visa system will make it hassle-free by for visitors by cutting down their waiting times when they wish to visit Oman on a vacation, for business purposes or to visit their relatives.
People can visit www.evisa.rop.gov.om where they need to register with an username and password to apply and then opt for the visa of their choice before they pay.
