To encourage more Indian tourists to come to Oman, the Arab country is planning to launch an easier visa system.
Salim Al Mamari, Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Tourism of Oman, was quoted by the Times of Oman as saying that China and India were rising and so was Iran after the sanctions’ removal. To attract more tourists, more visas will be facilitated.
He was speaking during the Ministry of Tourism’s Get Connected forum in Muscat held on 12 April to promote tourism measures in Oman. The ministry, meanwhile, revealed that it had inked agreements with China, Russia and Iran to hasten visa processes.
A power point presentation showed that agreements had already been signed with immigration offices to ease visa processes for China, Russia and Iran. Hotels in the range of three to five stars and tour operators would be in a position to process visas for groups coming from the aforementioned countries.
The Indian embassy in Oman said that in 2016, 95,000 visas were issued from Oman to India and in the first two months of 2017 20,000 visas had been issued.
An Indian embassy official, on the other hand, said that interest had been increasing among Omanis for visiting India for purposes of tourism, medical treatment and business.
Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad Al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, said that Sultanate of Oman had earmarked OMR60 million for tourism projects in the coming three years.
